2025 Land Rover Defender Outbound Launched

Land Rover has unveiled the 2025 Defender Outbound, a new variant specifically designed for the overlanding market. This model sacrifices some seating capacity for enhanced practicality and luxury, making it a top choice for adventure enthusiasts.

Design and Features

The Defender Outbound is distinct with its matte finish mesh grille, bumpers, and 20-inch gloss black wheels. It’s available in a limited range of exterior colours, with the matte grey finish adding a layer of protection against “bush rash.” The interior is tailored for rugged use, featuring rubber mats and a durable rubber floor in the load bay to protect against scratches from heavy equipment.

Engine Options and Performance

Buyers can choose between two engine options: the D350, a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbodiesel producing 257 kW and 700 Nm of torque, and the P400, a mild-hybrid 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine delivering 294 kW and 550 Nm of torque. Both engines come with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and the vehicle boasts a 0-100 kph time of approximately 6.6 seconds.

Off-Road Capabilities

As expected from a Defender, the Outbound variant is built to handle the toughest terrains. It features Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, Terrain Response system, and adaptive air suspension, allowing up to 430 mm of articulation and 900 mm of wading depth. It’s also equipped to tow up to 3,000 kg, making it ideal for hauling trailers, boats, and more.

Driving Experience

According to Cars.co.za, during tests in the challenging conditions of the South African terrain, the Defender Outbound demonstrated impressive stability and comfort. On both tarred and muddy gravel roads, it maintained an excellent grip and provided a smooth, refined ride. The Pivi Pro infotainment system, known for its user-friendly interface, further enhanced the driving experience.

Luxurious Additions

For those seeking additional luxury, the Defender 130 V8 option offers a 5.0-liter supercharged engine with 500 PS and 610 Nm of torque, featuring high-end interior materials and advanced technology like a Meridian Sound System, head-up display, and wireless charging.

The Defender Outbound also ensures comfort and style, making it a versatile option for both urban and off-road adventures.
