April 2025 Fuel Prices Update: Diesel Drops, Others Hold Steady

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has announced updated fuel prices for April 2025, featuring a major reduction in diesel prices due to global market trends and the launch of the TAZAMA Open Access system. Here’s what you need to know.

April 2025 Fuel Prices in Zambia

According to the ERB, the national uniform pump prices are as follows:

  • Petrol: K34.98 per litre (unchanged)
  • Diesel: K30.23/litre (down from K32.54 – 7.10% drop)
  • Kerosene: K29.56 per litre (unchanged)
  • Jet A-1: K32.51 per litre (unchanged)

Additionally, Post Airfield Prices (PAP) at international airports remain unchanged, with the highest price at Mfuwe Airport (K35.75 per litre) and the lowest at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) and Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport (K32.51 per litre).

Key Factors Behind the Fuel Price Review

Several factors influenced the decision to maintain current fuel prices:

✔ International Market Trends – The prices of petroleum products on the international market declined significantly:

Kerosene decreased by 8.11% to US$82.53 per barrel.

Petrol dropped by 7.26% to US$76.38 per barrel.

Diesel fell by 6.85% to US$83.44 per barrel.

✔ Kwacha Depreciation – The Kwacha weakened slightly against the US dollar by 0.98%, moving from K28.78/US$ to K29.07/US$.

✔ Introduction of TAZAMA Open Access
This new policy, effective 1st April 2025, allows multiple players to use the TAZAMA pipeline to import diesel, fostering competition and reducing transportation costs. The most competitive diesel premium under Open Access for April was US$84.00/MT, contributing to the notable price reduction.

✔ Trigger Band Threshold – The prices for petrol, kerosene, and Jet A-1 remained unchanged because the wholesale price changes for these products did not exceed the 2.5% adjustment threshold.
